AFFILIATED TO DIBRUGARH UNIVERSITYThe Department of Sociology, Panigaon OPD College, is committed to delivering a thorough understanding of sociological concepts and methods. It aims to develop critical thinking among the students who primarily come from a disadvantaged socio-economic position.
It considers both academic brilliance and social responsibility as its duty. The department was founded with the goal of promoting sociological teaching and learning, and it is essential to achieving the academic goals of students in the surrounding area and beyond.
Its mission is to prepare students to actively interact with and confront the many issues facing modern society by cultivating in them a sense of social duty, ethical consciousness, and national accountability.
The Department follows the curriculum prepared by Dibrugarh University and it offers courses at both higher secondary and UG level. It has a vast alumni network who are contributing to their respective fields.

The departmental library has over 400 books, journals, and magazines. Students can issue books for 15 days with up to 3 renewals. Students are also guided to access e-libraries such as NDLI, e-Gyankosh, and e-PG Pathshala.
